Brown Pro-Start

Placing shortcuts on your desktop will spare you from navigating through many folders in order to launch an application. The downside is that you will end up with an overcrowded desktop. Another solution is Brown Pro-Start. It works the same way as the Run function in Windows, but it is more comfortable to use and it offers some information about your system.

Brown Pro-Start is freeware and installing it on your computer will not be a challenge. It is compatible with most Windows editions and its only requirement is to have MS .NET Framework 4.0 installed.

The interface is a bit larger than the Run window. You can type what you want to launch in a dialog box on this window. Alternatively, you can browse for an .exe or any other type of file which can be launched by Windows. The paths or applications you type on the interface will be saved in Pro-Start's cache and if you need to re-launch something, you will find it by extending the dialog box like a drop menu.

A small button on the interface will display a pop up menu with options for updating the application, browsing for a file and others. You will also find an option for clearing Pro-Start's cache. It may not sound like much, but this means that there will be less junk files to find when using a cleanup utility.

Another option in the pop up menu will display basic information about any partition on your computer. You will be able to see its type (fixed or removable), format, total and free space.
